Television Appearances Featuring James Blackwell

James Blackwell analyzes the 1991 Gulf war on Day one. He was the full time military analyst on network/cable news. CNN hired him earlier that day and he just happened to be in the network's Washington Studio to meet the reporters, producers, writers and technical staff. He was just about to leave when the air war broke out. He spent the next three straight days there as CNN unscrambled its satellite signal so that the entire world audience could tune in to CNN's exclusive on-site coverage from downtown Baghdad. Blackwell leveraged CNN's leading edge technologies -- satellite photos, advanced video graphics, and online data feeds to provide unmatched military analysis that assured Americans that the Gulf War would be a win for America.
People magazine headline read "The man to watch when the tanks got rolling." In this first report when the ground campaign launched, CNN provided Blackwell with a John Madden-style telestrator to illustrate what could be happening in the ground campaign. He turned out to be very accurate. Even his speculation that the helicopters heard by Bernard Shaw in Baghdad were likely to be US Special Operations turned out, after the war, to be generally correct. So much so that one of Blackwell's former Army colleagues told him that the Generals in the pentagon operations center debated whether to contact him and shut down his reporting. But it turned out one of Blackwell's West point and High School classmates told the senior leaders that he knew Blackwell personally and that no one would probably believe him anyway.

In my volunteer work as Korean War Historian for the 307th Bombardment Group Association https://307bg.org/category/Korean-war/ I am producing a series of videos narrating the achievements of one of America’s most accomplished band of aerial warriors. 1st versions of videos are available here. We expect to tell this story in eight episodes. I welcome your input.

My second project is a book on a more personal story. My uncle was Radio Operator on the first B-29 shot down by a MiG-15 fighter over Korea in November 1950. His is a tale of extraordinary virtue by an ordinary person. This will be a work of creative nonfiction.
